San Pedro

Wednesday 10/16
Left Marina Del Rey at 10:30. With the main and Genoa up we got a bit of a push from the winds. Sailed a third of the way before it died. Kevin had fixed the auto pilot so that was a relief. The trip to San Pedro was only 21 miles. Very mild conditions. As we circled into the harbor the winds really came up. (Of course) Our slip was right in front of the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. A nice facility. Got all settled in and Kevin’s cousin Kerry Brady came by for dinner. He owns a business down here and lives in Long Beach so he graciously accepted a few Amazon packages for us. Fixed him a nice tuna dinner and the boys had a great time catching up.
Thursday 10/17
It was time for a pedicure for these old feet. Ventured into old town and found a salon that only charged me $20. Kevin checked out the county library and we met at the grocery store. Lots of duplexes and apartments. Probably for all the cannery workers that use to be employed here.
Kerry picked us up for dinner and took us to a unbelievable resort on the cliff. Terranea. Acres of lush flora and fauna with outrageous views. Probably one of the poshest places we’ve ever been. We were happy we dressed for the occasion. Unfortunately, Kerry’s wife wasn’t able to join us. He is a real character and we so enjoyed his hospitality and company. Fun had by all.
Friday 10/18
We set out after breakfast for the Maritime Museum. Spent a couple hours browsing

many replica ships. Such intricate works of art. There were some gorgeous wooden tenders that I would love to call my own. A display of the Japanese community that worked in the canneries and owned many of the businesses in town, only to lose everything during WW11. A naval exhibit, underwater diving exhibit and much more. A walk to the Fish Market which was not only selling every kind of fish, but had a few restaurants that were selling platters the size of a cookie sheet of cooked fish. They sold for $20-142. A loaf of garlic bread on the side. A bit too much for us. Kevin wanted to tour the naval ship
the U.S.S Iowa that served during the war. I wasn’t interested so I read out on the aft. Had a nice Mexican lunch and walked through the downtown. Very sad. A lot of the businesses have closed up. It was noon and hardly any people were in the streets.
Back at the Yacht Club we stopped in for a drink. We ended up talking to a gentleman who also owns a Catalina 42 and has done the Haha 12 times. He was very annoying and a big story teller. Other than him, we found this YC to be the most friendly and accommodating one yet.
