Lazy days of Ventura

Sat 10/12
Kevin spent the morning cleaning off the dirt from the Santa Anna
winds. Unreal how the dirt got into every nook and cranny. The
weather is as calm as calm can get as well. Tim/Lee let us borrow
their car to make a run to an auto parts store to p/up some well
needed oil filters and a side trip to Trader Joe’s. Kevin changed
the oil as I busied myself inside. We had Lee/Tim
over for HH to thank them. A walk to a Greek restaurant for
dinner.
Sunday 10/13
We finally got our repaired mainsail back and Kevin and I installed
it early in the am to avoid the winds. He worked on whipping
lines while I scrubbed floors. It’s amazing how much time we spend
cleaning this boat. Walked along the shore to the Channel Island
History Center. Very interesting. The yacht club was hosting a
free meal this evening so we went along with Tim/Lee. We sure enjoy
Spending time at all these yacht clubs. People are so pleasant and
love to talk to you about your journey. I have to say though, we
are always the youngest people there. Said our goodbyes to Tim/Lee.
We will catchup w/them in San Diego.
Monday 10/14
Fueled up by 7:15 am and were on our way. Put up the
main and Genoa. Again, no wind to speak of. Turned
on the engine and had a very uneventful sail to Marina
Del Rey. Along the way we could see land. Mountains
with lots of homes close to the shore. Kevin spent the entire
time, except an hour at the helm while I read and took a
nap. Not a bad way to travel. Joline/Jim Stapp and a friend
of theirs Andrea, greeted us at the Del Rey jetty. So nice to see some
familiar faces. We got a slip in front of the Del Rey Yacht
Club. By far the fanciest we’ve been to yet. Walked over to
Andreas condo on the beach and caught up after not seeing each
other for 6 weeks. Had dinner at a Thai restaurant and vowed
to get together again tomorrow.
Tuesday 10/15
Woke to yet another beautiful sunny day. Kevin had some
calls to make about insurance in Mexico. It’s been a
challenge to get as they all keep telling us we have no
experience in California or Mexico and that our boat
is too old. Frustrating! Had breakfast w/Nina/Bill Kramer.
Met Jo/Jim at the pier and strolled down Venice Beach to
Santa Monica. Lots of fun and crazy characters along the way.
Not many bikini clad girls or muscle men along the walk. Took
a side track through all the canals. In the early 1900’s a rich tycoon
built the canals to copy Venice Italy. Gorgeous homes along the route.
Went back to Andrea’s

condo and chilled for a couple
hours. What a view she has. Floor to ceiling windows
facing the ocean. Took an Uber across town to a pizza/brew
pub that was a friend of Alex ‘s (Jo’s son). Enjoyed each
others company immensely.
As we got back to the boat, the all woman racing boat
Maiden pulled in and tied up behind us. Wow, I wish we weee
able to spend time w/them.
